I am back with another part of the Wedding Story and today it will be all about the wedding planner.
As I mentioned in Part 2, I have decided to put my trust in the hands of a professional for the organization of my wedding. If I have to do it all over again, I would change only one thing: I would find her faster! 🙂 I realize that there are plenty of people out there who plan their own weddings and they turn out lovely. In fact, one of my close friends got married last year and she planned it on her own. The wedding was amazing and my friend got so much satisfaction of the fact that she managed to touch and think of every single detail. I admire her patience and enthusiasm but I would never be able to handle the pressure. That is my number one reason of why you should hire a wedding planner:
A wedding is a stressful event. You have to think of the comfort and entertainment of 180 people (in my case) and the only thing you really want is to be with the one you love and enjoy the day. This is when the professionalism and the invisible, yet strong hand of the wedding planner come to the rescue. They look after everything: the guests, the seating plans, the timing and quite importantly: the unexpected! Things can and probably will go wrong, no matter how perfect your plans are. In such occasions it is nice to know that you can rely on someone, who can definitely handle the situation.
Another interesting fact about weddings is that you don’t realize how many little details you need to think of until you actually start to plan one. And here comes reason number 2:
A wedding planner knows. They know everything you need to include, they know the right people, they know the locations, they know the ups and downs of food choices. They really really know a lot about weddings. And for me that knowledge is invaluable because I would never consider how attractive the salad would look after an hour in the open or how practical it would be for everyone if we have a block table rather than a set meal. After all, the services of a wedding planner have their price but I believe that experience and knowledge are worth it. In fact, I think that without my wedding planner the wedding experience would have been way more expensive and stressful because our initial choice of restaurant had a serious downfall we did not even suspect of.
A final and, in my opinion, most important perk of hiring a wedding planner to organize your wedding is that if you are as lucky as I was, you earn a friend for a lifetime.
The Emotional Connection
The wedding planner is with you from the beginning: they give you words of encouragement when you tremble from the idea of the long waited ‘I do.’ They help with the planning of your amazing Bachelorette Party. They help your mom when she struggles with her speech and they bring you tissues when you cry during that same speech. They take the microphone away from the slightly drunk DJ and they help you put your wedding sneakers on (Yes, I had some 🙂 ). They really become an amazing friend during that 1 year of wedding planning. And I believe that every occasion to welcome a great person in your life should be embraced.
